Mario Balotelli is no stranger to controversy, so it is quite apt that he may be the main beneficiary from the Carlos Tevez situation. Balotelli has been telling the world what a fantastic player he is for a while now and we’ve seen flashes of it, along with red mist that descends from time-to-time. With Carlos Tevez surely heading out the Eastlands exit door for real this time, this is the opportunity for Mario Balotelli to step up and show the world that he is the player he says he is and not just a moody talent with a short fuse.
Mario Balotelli can be brilliant
Mario Balotelli has shown flashes of brilliance, which makes me wonder how good he really could be. Take Man City’s third Premier League game last season against West Brom as a microcosm of the enigma that is Mario Balotelli. He scored two good goals, showed some nice touches and build-up play, then got himself sent off with a petulant kick and stamp on Youssouf Mulumbu.
Mario Balotelli can be bad
The good has been far overshadowed by the ugly. He’s shown way too many glimpses of what a petulant, immature, young man he is too. He’s been involved in numerous rows with teammates in training, been sent off, hauled off and even kung fu kicked a Popov, which put the nail in City’s Europa League adventure last season!
Balotelli needs to back up the boast
After winning Tuttosport’s ‘Golden Boy’ trophy, he said that he didn’t know who Jack Wilshere was, and that only Lionel Messi was a slightly better player than him. Well it’s time to step up and prove that now Mario. We’ve seen glimpses of greatness, but you had more yellow cards (11) than goals (10) last season. With Carlos Tevez leaving Eastlands, you have the chance to step up and prove that you’re worth the £24m price tag and all the hype that you’ve been surrounding yourself with in recent years. Man City are in the Champions League and expected to challenge Man United and Chelsea for the title.
So, it’s time to back up the boast and show Europe what you’ve been talking about for all this time. Let your feet do the talking so your extravagant mouth doesn’t have to.
