With the games coming thick and fast over the festive period, fantasy football managers have had to think and act quickly to tinker with their teams. There is not only the risk of losing players to injury, but also the risk of rotation as players are rested with so many games in a short period of time.
So after a positive week 17, here are my budget fantasy football bargains for game week 18.
Best budget fantasy football bargains for game week 18
1. Danny Wellbeck (Man Utd)
Danny Wellbeck has become increasingly involved in the Man Utd line-up this season. He netted his fourth Premier League goal of the campaign against Fulham on Wednesday night and looked a constant menace throughout his 75 minutes on the pitch. In his last two outings for the Red Devils, Wellbeck has taken 5 shots at goal, of which 3 have hit the target and one has flown in the net. He also had a couple of key passes, so he is also creating chances too.
With Man Utd facing Wigan at home this weekend, Wellbeck should again get a look in and start up front. The Red Devils face Blackburn on New Year’s Ever and so Sir Alex may choose to rest some of his frontline then. Danny Wellbeck should do well for his fantasy football owners on boxing day.
2. Kieran Richardson (Sunderland)
Kieran Richardson has made it in to my budget fantasy football bargains with regularity in recent weeks. What’s more, he has delivered on the previous two times I’ve picked him.
Richardson has been resurgent under Martin O’Neill and in his last two matches he has taken 3 shots at goal, as well as supplying 4 chance-creating key passes and two assists. He should have scored goals as well, but has been denied by great goalkeeping against Spurs and Blackburn.
Sunderland face Everton this weekend at the Stadium of Light and expect Kieran Richardson to again earn points for fantasy football managers with him in their side.
3. Danny Graham (Swansea)
Swansea’s last two matches have been away from the Britannia and they have struggled, failing to score at either St. James’ Park or Goodison. However, they are a different kettle of fish at home and so too is Danny Graham.
A goal last time at the Liberty Stadium saw him take his season total to five in the Premier League and he will be looking to add another strike this weekend.
Swansea face a QPR side that has shipped shots and goals recently, Danny Graham is finally looking like he is justifying the hefty price tag Swansea paid. Fortunately for fantasy football managers, he is available at a budget price in most leagues.
4. Leon Osman (Everton)
Leon Osman has been playing extremely well of late since being pushed in to a role supporting Louis Saha, which has made him of interest to fantasy football managers. In the last two matches, Osman has taken 8 shots at goal, of which 6 have been on target and 2 have gone in the net. He’s not just been a goal scorer though, with 7 chance-creating passes he’s looking good for assist points too..
Everton travel to Sunderland this weekend to face Martin O’Neill’s new look side who are yet to keep a clean sheet. It will be a tight match, but Leon Osman will again be in the thick of it for the Toffees in his new role supporting Saha. His previous form indictaes he will earn points for fantasy football managers with him in their side.
5. Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle)
Jonas Gutierrez has been quietly and efficiently performing for the Magpies whilst Demba Ba has been taking all the plaudits recently.
The Argentinean has taken 3 shots at goal and supplied 5 key passes in Newcastle’s last two matches, indicating that he is primed to provide some points.
Gutierrez is not known for being a big fantasy football scorer, but he does score his points in streaks. All indicators appear to be pointing in the direction that Jonas Gutierrez is ready to provide some returns for managers who take a gamble on him as a fantasy football bargain this week.
